Insert the usual “not an April Fools joke” disclosure here. Some diligent city council members took a long, hard look at what’s wrong with the city council. Oh sure, they could have tackled the usual suspects — chronic budget crises, unabashed pandering to government unions — but that would have been too obvious.
No, what really troubles the city council is that it isn’t liberal enough.
With that in mind, 12 council members today formed the Progressive Caucus. The new block promises “to champion a progressive agenda on housing, economic development, labor and civil rights issues.” The organizers claim the caucus is intended to send a message to the mayor and council speaker.
Take that, Christine Quinn and Mike Bloomberg, you closet tea-partiers!
