Tomorrow our silly council is expected to pass Council Member Gale Brewer’s bill prohibiting stores from leaving their doors open while their air conditioners are running. You know that pleasant feeling when you’re walking along a city sidewalk on a hot summer day, and you catch a quick blast of frigid air from the appliance store you’re passing? Add that to the pile of life’s little pleasures that our nanny-state city government has banished.
The notion of private property in NYC is a farce. We have no property rights, just privileges that City Hall can take away at a whim.
The comments at the end of the Times article linked above are worth reading. My favorite is #47, posted by Nat: “I’m all for new rules so long as they don’t apply to me.”
