Petitioning

In order to get our candidates on the ballot and give New Yorkers an opportunity to vote for liberty, we must collect signatures on petitions.  Petitioning is the most difficult job we do every election, so we would greatly appreciate it if you could help get liberty on the ballot!  To see and download petitions for each of the candidates we are endorsing, check out the candidates page.  If you are unable to petition but would still like to help out, find a friend, have each of you sign a petition, endorse each others petitions, and then send them in.

  • If you wish to help petition fill out the form below and we’ll get back to you. Thanks.

    Name

    Address

    Email

    Phone

Number of signatures you will collect

    1+1=?

Ideas on how to do it:

    1.  Hit the street – the tried and true method.  Get a clipboard and pens. Find a busy corner and ask people to sign. I usually just say “Are you registered to vote in NYC? Will you help us get our candidates on the ballot?   People get it – and they either sign or walk away.  It’s easy.
    2.  Have a house party – invite all your friends over and get them all to sign.  If you have enough people we will try to get a candidate to come and meet you.
    3.  Events at bars or restaurants – invite friends out for dinner or drinks and get everyone to sign. Promote it (we will help) and make a fun event of it.

     Ideas for good places

    • Bryant Park Monday night movies – prior to movie
    • Apartment Complexes (e.g. Stuyvesant Town): sidewalks outside the complex (don’t block access or enter the complex)
    • Movie Lines
    • Subway platforms
    • River to River concerts
    • Bus stops
    • Any place people are waiting around

Call me or email me if you have question or need help.   YOU will make it happen.

    More Ideas and Instructions

    • Make as many copies of the blank petitions as you feel you need.
    • Always save one blank one in case you need to photocopy more.
    • You must be registered to vote in New York State to collect/witness signatures.
    • If you have signed another independent nominating petition, you cannot sign or witness signatures!
    • You can’t witness your own signature. Have a friend witness your signature on a separate sheet.
    • Instruct the person signing not to use a title such as Dr., Mr., Ms., etc.
    • Instruct the person signing to give his/her street address only, no P.O. Box addresses.
    • Be careful about dates and signatures. Do not alter a signature. If the signer must alter or move his/her signature, he/she must initial the change. If you change a date, you must initial the change. You need not initial changes to addresses or town data.
    • You do not have to be a member of the LP to collect or witness signatures.
    • Never argue with or try to convert anyone when working to get his/her signature. Smile, be friendly, and get his/her signature.
    • Remember the 20 second rule: if a person doesn’t agree to sign within 20 seconds, move on to someone else! Don’t sacrifice the many for the few.
    • Carefully fill out the witness statement at the bottom. Any errors or omissions will invalidate the entire sheet. If your post office address is in a different town than your residence, or if you have a P.O. Box, you must put down both addresses!
    • Do not fill in the Sheet Number. We will add that when collating the sheets.
    • Good lines to use when asking for signatures:
    • “Excuse me please, are you registered to vote in New York State?”
    • “Anybody should have the opportunity to be on the ballot, don’t you agree?”
    • “Sign on the dotted line.”
    • Always check that a signature, name and address are legible before the person leaves.
    • Carry the signature sheets with you during your daily activities, you never know when you might have an opportunity to collect a signature or two!
    • Have fun.
