Stop the Porn Tax!

If this doesn’t get the armchair activists away from their keyboards and into the streets, I don’t know what will. Among the many new taxes Governor Paterson is proposing is a tax on Internet porn. Okay, not just porn, but a tax on all Internet downloads. But honestly, what else is there that’s really worth downloading besides porn?

Conservative Party chairman Chuck Long, as he is wont to do, makes a public ass of himself by opposing the proposal but for the wrong reasons. Long claims, “it’s [the tax is] encouraging the citizens of this state to download it,” which as Roy Edroso at the Village Voice points out, “conflicts with every Milton Friedman taught us.”

While I hope this tax is defeated along with Paterson’s other idiotic proposals, I wouldn’t mind seeing the public debate rage on for awhile, because it will give me an excuse to keep blogging about it and posting images like the ones above. I’m also interested to see if some “porn” tags boost our visitor stats.
